ACCIDENT
Its been nearly a week since the day I killed them.
It was an accindent. At midnight, I was returning home from a party. I was driving fast, rain was heavy and consciousness, subdued under alcohol.
Their car was standing still at the bank of road. I suddenly lost my control and hit them. Their car rolled down in the ditch. I dragged out my subhuman body and went to them. Somehow I managed to pull their bodies, first of an young blonde woman and another of a man his athletic body was heavy to lift. I carefully searched for their pulse but to no avail, they were dead. I peeped at backseat and was thunderstuck to see a small body of a baby lying there. I immediately stretched out my hands and brought the baby out of the car.
Unbelievably, the baby was still alive. He was a baby boy.
His soft feathery body was absolutely unscratched. He suddenly started crying, maybe the rain brought him to his consciousness.
Now I'm here in my flat. My neighbour, Sarah, who is a doctor helped me with the baby. I did not know baby's name so I decided to call him Greg, (two years ago, Greg was my pet hamster). I had decided to jilt him and throw in an orphanage.
In the far lands, the sun was setting down. Day was weak, night was overpowering. Greg, the baby was crying. Earlier in the noon, Sarah had taught me to feed babies with bottles, I decided to try it now. I took Henry in my lap and put the tip of feeding bottles in his mouth. Just in a minute, his loud weeps vanished. He turned very quite and calm. Gradually his breathes matched the cold breeze of my balcony. His pink cheeks caught my gaze. I did not realised when his soft fingers curled around my rough index finger. His eyes were shut but were still beautiful, resembling the variant colours of a sunset.
I was hurt. We both were hurt. I, with the guilt of the kill, Greg, with the loss of his parents.
I will be his father, Yes, I've decided, now Greg will be my son and I'll be his father.
I had no idea what to feel . I was 'bout to take such a huge responsibility of raising a child. I looked up in the sky. A huge swarm of birds was flying around. Some smaller birds were accompanied by bigger birds. The orange light of the drowning sun was reflected on their bodies. they were not many, they were one. I felt like closing my eyes and leave my body to the wind, and let it take me high in the heaven. Nature was with me. I knew what I had to do. I was sure what I wanted. I wanted to hold baby Greg's hand and hold him when he'll fall. I wanted to give a happy life to my Greg. I kissed his forehead and promised to never leave him. Greg smiled, maybe he was seeing some beautiful dream.
I was gentally rocking the chair when the doorbell rang. I took Greg in my arms and went to open the door. It was the city police. Thier Chief asked, " Hello, Mr. Larry, where were you the night, a week before ?"
